I recently bought a mac and have not been making custom content because the programs that I would ordinarily use don't work on a mac. I was wondering if there are any tutorials or if any of you know of any programs that are used for that with a Mac.

From The Sims Resource, the file I believe should be a .zip that was downloaded. Open it up and extract the .package file(s), and then place those in the My Documents -%26gt; EA Games -%26gt; The Sims 2 -%26gt; Downloads folder (if you don't have one, just create one).

Then the next time you start the game, it'll ask you if you want to enable custom content (which you do). Then you'll need to restart the game in order for it to recognize the custom stuff in the game itself.Importing stuff from the sims resource?
You have to extract it by using win.rar or anything like that. I use Jzip.

Yesterday I downloaded a lot of custom content (makeup, clothes, etc.) from the sims resource as sims 2 packs. When I turned on the game and went into create a sim mode, I wasn't able to view or apply the content that I'd downloaded to my sim. Why does my sims 2 crash when I enter this lot?

I downloaded this modern house from The sims resource. It didn't show up so I downloaded it thru the way where you get that blue box and you have to click "accept" or something. Anyway, the lot works with my EPs and showed up fine on my game - until I tried to enter it. When the house showed up after loading a box poped up saying "the application has crashed. It will now terminate"

The person who created it might have mislabelled it, and it in fact does require EPs you don't have, or they have included a hacked object in the download. Whatever the reason you will have to delete it.

If you just installed it it should be easy to find.

Go to: \My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods

Right-click on each neighbourhood folder to find out how big each one is. The biggest one is the one that you use the most. (for example mine is N003 which is Veronaville) Open it up. Click on lots.

Okay so now you are in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N00#\Lots

Click on View on the top-left hand corner of your screen and then

arrange icons by %26gt; modified

Your lots will now be in date order. It's then a simple matter of deleting the one that you installed last.

When you go to the neighbourhood screen when you next start your game the house will probably still be able to be seen in the house bin, and also in your neighbourhood lot. Delete it from your house bin using the little trash can icon and bulldoze the lot it was on as well.

Now it's completely gone.

you need the sims 2 (obviously), an account on the website, and a graphics programme, you can use paint but photoshop or paint shop pro are better, hope this helps!

I download things from there all the time to get the custom content that comes with it. There is a virus called the girl doll dressed virus that can mess it up, so after installing exchange items check installed content on the launch menu and get rid of any items labelled girl doll dressed, nkd, or project. They can mess up your game.

It also has to do with how much you download and of what. All I have is some furniture, hair and clothes. MY game runs a bit slower, but thats all. If it messed up your entire computer maybe you should only download a few things.

If you want to upload the downloaded objects on Sims 2, the Sims 2 official website is easier to download and upload it. Download the objects, then go to the file where you saved it and double click on it. You need Sims Body shop to upload it.

There aren't.

Let me explain - The best custom content sites also have custom content files as .package files. Some things like a whole sim, a lot, or flooring and walls are in the .sims2pack file types.

But if you want a custom set of bed sheets, a different car, furniture, clothing, skin, hair and eyes, these will come in .package files and the files will be downloaded in .rar or .zip format. It's only the Exchange that forces all uploads to be .sims2pack.

For some reason, people new to custom content freak right out when presented with a .rar file. It's not anything to get excited over. You just need a program called WinRar to open them up and get the .package files out. The .package files get placed in your My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads directory. That's it.

I'm guessing that you can only download things from the sims recourse because they provide Sims3packs to download. All you need to do for these is double click them right? most mod websites only give you package files. You will need a recource.cfg before you do anything else. Here are the instructions on installing these mods from peggyzone.com -

1) Put the Resource.cfg to your root Sims 3 folder. For example, if you installed Sims 3 to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, that is your root Sims 3 folder. If you installed it elsewhere, change the following paths to reflect your install location. If there exists the Resource.cfg file in your root Sims 3 folder, you will NOT need to recover it.

2) Please create a new file folder named Mods in your root Sims 3 folder, then create another folder named Packages in Mods.

3) Then put .package in that folder ( C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages ) and the game will recognize it.

4) If the mod can not show in the game when it is installed according to the following instructions, please DELETE the temporary files in My Document\Electronic Arts\The Sims3. ( TIPS: 1. This catalogue is different from the one of installing MODs. 2. XXXXCache.package is temporary file. )

This is the same for any other sims3 mods, except that most don't come with the Resource.cfg. Once you place the Resource.cfg file you can just leave it there.

There is a site called www.modthesims.info they have both Sims 2 and Sims 3. You have to extract the downloads to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages, you have to make the Mods folder by yourself. I think modthesims is the best website for downloading mods.

Depends what file it is and if you downloaded it right.

First off make sure that the hair is for sims 3, because I know a few people that make that mistake.

Make sure you have put the files in the right folder.

The Sims 2 is a 3 dimensional (3D) game. Almost everything you see in the game is some sort of 3d model, a set of triangles in 3D space. These 3D models combine with textures and other settings to make up your sims and everything in their homes.

3D models are often called meshes, and that is the term used for 3D models in The Sims 2.

A mesh is just the shape and form. It is nothing without texture. Textures for meshes are generally called recolours.

Yes, it's legal; EA has said so because *technically*, paysites aren't allowed because they are profiting from The Sims 2, but EA has allowed them anyway.

None that I know of. I'm going to have to check out TSR again. I've been there many times and I've never seen cc offered in Sims2Pack files, only in zipped folders yet people on this site keep saying that TSR offers it in that format.

Just out of curiosity, what type of stuff can you download from TSR that comes in a Sims2Pack file? Oh, and that's what they call the installer that EA invented for the sims 2. I have never actually seen any site that offers things in that format, only EA's Exchange, but they must at TSR because you are probably the 10th person at least that has mentioned that TSR has it.

But like I said, I've gotten things from TSR and they were in zipped folders, not the same folders as EA, weird.

**eta -- thumbs-up to the person below me -- but MTS doesn't have anything in the same type of installer packages as EA offers. Well, sims and lots are first put into that type of installer and then they are compressed further and put either into a zip or a rar folder. How do i put in Sims 2 beach houses in my lot?

I've downloaded some beach houses for my Sims 2 from the Sims Resource. They all went on my game fine, but when i click on them to put them on a lot, they're still red and won't let me place it. And the end of all of them they have longer areas so it can be placed on a beach but when i try to place it on a beach part, it won't let me place it. Some of the neighborhoods that came with the game have very narrow beaches that make it difficult to place a house. Try putting down an empty beach lot first, starting with the smallest if needed and then slowing working up in size (place lot, bulldoze lot, place larger lot, bulldoze, etc). This will help extend the coastline so you can eventually place the downloaded lot.

If you have the Free Time expansion, you can alter the terrain by entering the cheat code "modifyNeighborhoodTerrain on" (without quotation marks). After entering the code, click and drag the cursor over your beach and use [ or ] to raise and lower the land or P to smooth it. Once you're done, use "modifyNeighborhoodTerrain off" to turn off the tool. I suggest you create a new neighborhood to play around with the tool before trying it on your regular neighborhood, as it can be touchy and it's very easy to do frightening things to your landscape.

How do I add photos to the Sims Resource?

I have been a member of The Sims Resource for a while, but I've never uploaded anything before.

I keep getting an error message when I try to upload multiple screenshots of my lot. I went back and changed the monitor size to the correct one (as well as the aspect ratio) but it is coming up with the first image saying: "This image will not be approved, image dimension must be between 800x600 and 1024x768 with a 4:3 aspect ratio"

What should I do? I have redone this several times, and am getting a little frustrated now.How do I add photos to the Sims Resource?

Your mom is right - you should never pay for Sims downloads from anywhere except the official Sims 2 Store. EA owns the games, and only EA is allowed to make money off of content for the games.

But this doesn't mean you can't have the downloads you want. Luckily for you, you can get them for free here:

I finally decided to download some free items from the sims resource...I figured everybody is able to do it and nothing happens. Anyway I downloaded a couple dresses and a playpen and a winnie the pooh crib with matching toys that was it. And now I can not see anything on the screen. It will load up and if i move around my mouse I can het the check mark and get into my house but still its all black. did this cause my game to crash and will i need to un-install it and re install it?Question about the sims resource?
Just take the stuff you just download out of your Downloads folder and delete it. No reason to uninstall.

I don't have an account but an IP address is a series of numbers that tells websites where the computer you're using is located. Most if not all websites can read your IP address, but few actually ask permission or notify you about it. Even this website I'm sure can see your IP address, though it may not display it. Whether or not it asks permission does not necessarily make it safe or unsafe. Also, IP addresses don't necessarily give your exact location. For some people it does, but I've heard some people say that the IP address website lists their location as nowhere near where they actually live (I think this may be because some web browsers have some sort of safety feature). My IP address places me in the correct city but about 20 minutes from where I actually live.

As long as the website is run by reliable persons then it shouldn't be a problem. Of course, you can always try contacting the people who run the site and asking about it if you don't feel comfortable about them knowing your location. Many websites probably use IP addresses just for deciding which ads to display.

I downloaded things from the sims resource. what is an easy way to upload them to Sims 3? HELP?

okay so i downloaded over 200 things from the sims resource and they are in my downloads folder and for them to upload i have to click on them and wait about a minute for each one to upload to my sims 3. is there any application or anyway i can export all of those downloads into my sims 3 in ONE STEP. not doing each one separately ???? I have downloaded TONS of custom content from that site for all versions of the Sims. Been using it literally for YEARS.

As with any site there is the potential for problem files when you're downloading custom content, but I've never had any malicious files from there. There may have been the random one or two I had to delete because they didn't function properly, but that's going to happen on any site. For the amount of custom content I have, the few I've had to delete are nothing.

TSR is really not worth **** and any good sims download site will tell you. They are just money grubbers because as EA stated a good while back they would never allow a paysite for the game...however they let TSR live....Id reccomend Modthesims2.com (sometimes typed in as http://modthesims.info/ ). It containts mods, downloads and more for both TS2 and TS3, and while im pretty sure you might need to register there, unlike TSR where if you register it gives you access to some of the stuff w/o paying, you can access everything on mts for free, and they have a wider selection.

this is exactly what i did:

clicked the download button

it downloaded into a zipped folder

i extracted them into sims 2/dowloads folder

all the files are in the sims 2 downloads folder

but theyre not in the game

i thought they would be in the lots and houses bin

everything else ive downloaded from the sims resource worked how come the houses wont show up??

Well, they shouldn't be in Downloads for a start and I'd guess they are Sims2Pack files which the game won't read. The game ONLY reads package files.

If they are Sims2Pack files you have to install them. To do this, you can use the Maxis Installer that came with the game. This, however, is asking for trouble since the packing system with the game has serious problems. You double-click on the Sims2Pack files to do this, BTW. I don't know how reliable TSR are at cleaning their lot files - personally, I wouldn't use that site if they paid me (instead of the other way around).

A better alternative is to use Clean Installer. This is a fan-made installer which does the same job as the Maxis one only better. You can get CI here:

Install this utility and use it to open the Sims2Pack files (use right click and 'open with' if it doesn't do it automatically). Once you've got the files open, you can go straight to install if you like or, better, you can browse through the contents of the Sims2Pack file and get rid of unwanted stuff before you install. You will be surprised, oh yes you will, when you see how much crap can get put in there by the packing system. Any things in red are stray hacks which, if packed with a lot file, are likely to be out of date, so leave them out. Also, anything in pink will be a duplicate file (leave out also). You will find, unless the files have been cleaned, that there are piles of recolours and terrains in there which are not on the lot. Leave these out too. Finally, if any of the lots are occupied by sims, don't install them. Honestly, it's just asking for trouble.

Once you have installed the lots files - CI will put them where they're meant to be - move or delete the Sims2Pack files out of Downloads. The only files you should have in there are package files.The sims resource: LOTS?

It should say in the description of the house whether it includes it. Whenever I download a house, the furniture is already and always there. So it pretty much depends on the maker. Use the other option for the sims resource - it's much easier.

Download the sims3pack file and save it to the 'downloads' folder instead of your mods/packages folder. It should show up in the game launcher under the downloads section next time you run it and you can install it from there.

Are you downloading off the official website? If so, I had a few problems with it too. First off, you need to look at the 'required games' for that item and make sure that you have all of those games listed. If you don't, it won't work. Also, I had problems downloading things, too. To make it work on my computer, what I do is, instead of just left-clicking on the button that says 'download', right-click and select 'save target as'. Then save it on your desktop or in a folder somewhere. Then I find the file that i've just saved, double click it and install it into the game. That's for my computer, anyway but I don't know if it will work with your. Hope you manage to work out what the problem is, anyway.The sims resource help? And sims 2?

The sims resource trouble?

i have been searching for a privacy fence for the base game only of the sims 2. i found a couple on the sims resource so i joined up and downloded heaps of things. some things have come in the game but everything else including the fences :( hasnt. all the stuff i downloded didnt require any expansions, meshes or anything. why wont it work and pretend im an alien from another planet and i dont understand anything cause ive looked at other questions and they dont do anything for me. i am also using a macbook.The sims resource trouble?
First - don't download from TSR, it's a truly cr*p site and a paysite to boot.

However, it strikes me as likely, if you've not downloaded before that you've not enabled custom content. When you load the game a screen comes up at the start about custom content. On there, there is an option to enable custom content which is set to off by default. Cllick this option and then exit the game and restart. Some custom content will show up without the option on though a lot won't - basically anything that changes game code no matter how little (which the fences do). This sounds like your problem.

Not many sites actually offer sims3pack downloads - http://www.freshprincecreations.com/ does - you'll find mainly cars on that site, but it's still one of my favourites!

If you want to try setting up the framework for installing other types of files, it doesn't take long and is really worth it as it means you don't ever have to worry about which sites you download from - you can install anything! I download from TSR all the time and have never had any problems. Just read the comments on the download file to see what people are saying about it. I have used TSR since sims 1 and I've never had any bad files or other troubles.

You are missing the mesh. Go back to the page you downloaded the hair from and look for a page link to the mesh.

Double check your spelling.

Make sure you haven't been banned.

Make sure you don't use the same user name and email address at any anti-TSR filesharing sites such as PaysitesMustBeDestroyed, Garden of Shadows, etc. You might have been blackbanned from TSR if this is the case.

Another thing to consider is updating your mods. (Very important) some mods are not updated and have to be removed. sope is right - the modthesims tutorials are the best for helping you get things sorted, but if you're looking for a resource file that works, I uploaded the one I wrote to Mediafire. It doesn't necessarily have to be the most recent one, but many have mistakes in them which mean they're useless once you patch your game.

There's about ten items on the entire site that live up to the preview image placed, they photoshop their pictures to look beautiful but when you download it you end up with what looks like a puddle of whatever color it was supposed to be. They also steal a lot of ideas from other sites like mod the sims or around the sims then make less attractive versions of what is free elsewhere.

Though if you're set on downloading from there, you can use firefox as a browser to download from it or go here: http://en.softonic.com/mac/browsers and download the browser though opera or firefox would be better than internet explorer. They also need to be uncompressed (if in .zip format, you need to extract them, this option is available with right-clicking the file).

Apart from that, you need to ensure that the items you get are compatible with your version of the game...

A mesh is very important when you are downloading hair and other items on the sims. A mesh is kind of like a pattern (sorry it is a sowing analogy), once you have it you can download other hairs and stuff (like with a dress you can get different fabrics but ultimately will give you the same style dress). Did you unzip the mesh and put it in the sims 2 downloads file? If you didn't make sure you have win zip or winrar, depending on what kind of download it is and unzip it. After that you will extract it into the sims 2 downloads folder which will be in your "my documents". If you already did all of this then maybe you downloaded the wrong mesh.

I am planning to make movies with my Sims2 game. On youtube, I've noticed that when people make movies with the Sims2 games, whenever there are downtown scenes, there are subways and skyscrapers and busy highways. I've also noticed that their sims do things that you normally can't do in the game. For example: They make wishes on shooting stars, strangle each other, pass out, make "ta-daa!" gestures, and so forth.

I figure that it can be one of four things:

1. They are downloading these backgrounds/things from different websites.

2. They are making these things themselves.

3. These things are on a certain Expansion Pack.

4. They are using hacks and cheat codes.

Now, can someone who has actually done this with their game tell me what they did in order to achieve those things?

I would like to know:

1. Where/how to get skyscrapers when the game only lets you make 4-floor buildings.

To make skyscrapers, use the cheat "SetHighestAllowedLevel #" without quotes, and the highest level you would like to build to in place of the #.

Or you can use the neighborhood objects that come with Sims 2 Nightlife expansion pack. The monorail is a neighborhood object that came with Sims 2 Pets, and is also included in Sims 2 Seasons. As for the gestures, they are most likely mods (game hacks) downloaded from a site such as www.modthesims2.comSims 2 resource sites, and sims 2 How-to?

Yes it is. They have all kinds of download available in sims2pack file. That is when you download it you can simple move the downloads folder under Sims 2 and install to play. This is is easier to do than downloads in .rar file which you have to extract and all that.

Hair will require a mesh, unless it is just a very basic recolour of a Maxis hairstyle. Check the page again. Most clothing also requires a mesh.

What format are you downloading the files in? Are you downloading them as sims2pack files? If so you have to double-click on them to install them into your Downloads folder. You will get a message saying the files have been installed if it has been done correctly.

If you are downloading them as zip or rar files you need to extract them first before the game can read them. If you have a mac and you are using this method you need Stuffit. See here:http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?titl鈥?/a>

Absolutely not. Paysites are a huge controversy in the sims community and basically they have no legal basis for charging you for content which doesn't actually belong to them. Copyright belongs to EAxis. EAxis ignores their rights but large parts of the community loathe TSR and consider them a blight on the community. No other game community expects you to pay for fan made content only greedy sims sites owners like TSR.

You can pick up much better stuff elsewhere - someone suggested MTS2 which is an excellent site and COMPLETELY FREE. That is the site where some of the tools TSR use to make their pay stuff were made. Were made for everyone to use for FREE. It's also the site where most of us learned to mod the game - including the vast majority of the creators for TSR - tutorials and forum pages are available to everyone for FREE. Also, TSR are known for bad and, in most countries, strictly illegal business behaviour like having no refund policy, customer service or sharing your personal details with other sites (really), They also steal other people's stuff and ideas.Is it worth paying for the sims resource?
I don't think it is. Frankly, a lot of the content on TSR is low quality; anybody can submit stuff, which makes it a free-for-all, like the exchange.

1st your going to need winzip and winrar. You can google those and find where you can download them for free.

Then go to My Documents%26gt;%26gt;EA GAMES%26gt;%26gt;The Sims 2

Once in the file for The sims2 right click and go to "New" when that dropdown menu comes up click on "New Folder" Name the folder "Downloads"

When you save the downloads save them into the downloads folder, when they're in there right click them and click "extract" then the download should be in your game :)

You are missing the mesh. go back to wherever you found it and read it over. The mesh should be listed as a link someplace.

Custom content files usually come as zips or rars. These are archive file folders and need to be unpacked.

So unzip or unrar them. If they are zips and you have Windows XP, all you have to do is double-click the file and the archive programme will run. Choose extract and put the files inside the archive somewhere where you can find them. If they are rar files, you'll need Winrar (which is similar to Winzip which opens zip files). You use it in the same way (once you have installed it).

Once they are unzipped, go and find the files and move the files that are package files over to your Downloads folder which is here:

My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

That's it, run the game.

Some people unpack their zips and rars straight to their Downloads folder. I prefer not to do this since unpacking them straight there will put in everything in the zip in Downloads and there are often junk files in there including a readme and maybe some pictures. You don't need any of these clogging up your game folders. The game ONLY reads package files.

You need to make sure, when you are downloading, that you have all files required. With objects, it's usually pretty straighforward, though make sure you understand the difference between a mesh and a recolour (the recolour won't show up without the mesh, the mesh will show on its own). With skins, it's a litte more difficult since you may require a mesh as well as the actual clothes files. Unlike objects, skin meshes don't show up without the clothes files - sort of the other way round. If you're new to this, I'm not going to explain it here (ask another question) but read the websites carefully and make sure you have all the files required.

i use thesimsresource.com and have had NO viruses or bugs or anything- i've been using the site for months. Occasionally there is a file that wasn't uploaded right and makes the game crash, but just remove it from the download file and everything is fine! Check the message boards over on the offical Sims 2 website for safe downloading sites. I think I may have gotten a virus after downloading from the Sims Resource. I quit downloading from there and I haven't had any problems since. But I stick to only certain sites. Be careful and always run your virus scan when you download anything to your computer. Yes you can, those are user submitted items and not being watched by anybody who could get into any crap for your computer getting messed up. Use caution.

Is it ok to download houses of The Sims Resource?

Yesterday i downloaded some things from TSR, it caused my Sims 2: Open for Business to stop working. I reinstalled it and it is now working fine. As i don''t know what caused my game to stop working, i don't really know what to download off there anymore. I want to download a couple of houses...i have before and they have worked fine! But i'm not sure if i should or not.

Hmm, I think it should be ok to, I think you may have just downloaded a faulty file. I've done it before and from that site:/ before you download the item you want always check the "show requirements" option if it comes up. But other then that I would of thought it's be fine to download from there:)

You are having a problem getting the custom content to show up? Or you just don't know how to download stuff from the Sims resource? If you are a subscriber to them, you can download anything. If not, I would search the free stuff. There is a little arrow that points down on in the corner of the picture of the download you want to download. Click on the little arrow that points down. Then you will want to extract that file to your Documents/EA Games/Sims2/Downloads folder. Just make sure to download any meshes that go with your downloads and to enable custom content in your game. (Also be sure to register on Sims Resource. It's free. :)

Sims 3 custom content sites that work like sims resource?

I usually use thesimsresource.com to download free custom content for the Sims 3.

This is because it directly downloads to the launcher unlike when you use winrar with archives and put it into the package folder.

Are there any other websites that do it the same way thesimsresource.com does?

I can never seem to get the objects to work when I do it using winrar.

I would suggest using 7-Zip not winrar.

I really wouldn't go there, they seem quite shady to me. And there's no reason to pay for Sims downloads, there are lots of free content. Try the Exchange on the official site or Mod The Sims.

And worse; more than 600 people have recently had their personal information (real names and emails) made public and TSR is apparently behind that, claiming these people are "pirates". Well, it's actually illegal to charge money for Sims content so they have no business making accusations like that in the first place.

The Sims 3- Installed custom content does not work even with resource.cfg?

I have downloaded lots of hair and clothes from peggyzone, xmsims websites like this with the resource.cfg thing following the instructions to the t and they still do not show up. But I have downloaded things from the sims resource and it mod the sims and they work. Can someone tell me why and what I am doing wrong?The Sims 3- Installed custom content does not work even with resource.cfg?
first thing you should do is undo everything you've done. delete the extra folders you've created and the cc you tried to install.

Download+Install the Sims 3 helper Monkey from Modthesims. the helper monkey is a great tool for download cc that are not .package files. It creates all the necessary folders for you and puts everything in the right place. All you have to do is double click the file once its been downloaded via winrar and everything will go where it needs to go.

It has to be moved to the World Adventure expansion folder. I Have not done it yet because I had not realized my downloads were working but I read it on forums. Will test it today and update my blog but try it anyway.
